Alves was born Rodrigo Alves on 30 July 1983 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to an Brazilian mother and an British father. His father, Roserval Alves, hailed from a Portuguese family that arrived in Brazil in the late 1940s. [5] The original business of the family was farming. They later added retailing and property. When she was 5 years old, at the time her grandfather gifted the Barbie dolls. Alves was born a male. Yet, she thought of her self as a girl around the age of three to six. She played with dolls and was also able to cross-dress. [6][7] Her belief is that gender does not define the person. Alves was shy and bullied in her childhood. At the age of nineteen, Alves had a hormone malfunction, and excess estrogen that caused breast tissue to grow; Her other physical characteristics were considered a target by bullies. Alves was born into the same family which owns multiple stores of groceries in Brazil. They've been wealthy for many years and yet, they do not make a dime from the shops. 10 Alves moved to London at the age of 18 which is where she studied public relations at London College of Communication.
